Platts reporters and other credentialed journalists congregated as Energy Information Administration chief Guy Caruso discussed energy markets, including the recent volatility in oil and fuel prices.
Caruso has been a leading spokesman for the government on energy trends since President George Bush nominated him to head the Department of Energy's information branch in 2002. His agency's reports are considered essential to energy markets and his testimony in Congress is common as lawmakers seek solutions to US dependence on oil and the nation's concerns over global warming.
Caruso has more than 30 years of experience in energy, many of them at DOE. In addition to heading EIA, he has also been DOE's director of policy for oil and natural gas, international affairs and energy emergencies. In addition, he has worked at the International Energy Agency in Paris. Caruso announced recently that he would resign from EIA as of September 3.
