BP p.l.c. engages in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Its exploration and production activities include oil and natural gas exploration, field development and production, pipeline transportation, and natural gas processing.

The company is also involved in the supply, trading, and refining of oil; manufacture and marketing petrochemicals; marketing and trading of natural gas, natural gas liquids, and liquefied natural gas; and production of aromatics and acetyls. It also engages in LNG shipping and regasification activities, and low-carbon power development.

In addition, the company engages in the development of projects that reduce the power consumption; the development of hydrogen fuel technology; and gas fired power generation utilizing natural gas.

BP has exploration and production interests in 25 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Russia, Norway, Canada, South America, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia.

It operates the Trans Alaska pipeline system; the Forties pipeline system; the Central Area Transmission pipeline; and three LNG plants in Trinidad, Indonesia, and Australia.

As of December 31, 2005, the company had proved reserves of 18.3 billion barrels of oil and gas equivalent. The company offers its products to gas importer companies, state owned energy companies, energy utilities, and wholesalers and power generators. BP was founded in 1889 and is headquartered in London.
